Take those empty two-liter bottles and turn them into a DIY upside down planter to enjoy fresh fruits and veggies year round (or just lovely foliage too!). With a little bit of time, energy, and space you’ll be a great farmer in no time! Might we suggest tomatoes?
What you’ll need:
- Empty 2-liter bottle
- Eye bolt with washer
- Duct tape, contact paper, or spray paint
- Drill
Time to create!
Step 1 – Creating an access hole
Make a 2-inch hole on the side of bottle. This hole will let you add soil more easily and also is where you will water your plant.
Step 2 – Add the hanger
As 2-liter bottles are quite thick on the center of the bottom of the bottle, this place provides a great place to hang it by. Using a drill about the same diameter as the eye bolt, drill a hole in the center of the bottom of the bottle. Now thread the bolt right into the bottle.
Step 3 – Covering your planter
If roots are exposed to light for too long, they can become damaged so it is very important to cover your planter. Get decorative, or there is nothing wrong with some good ‘ole fashioned duct tape. Wrap the entire bottle including the access hole. Cut an “x” through the access hole to allow access once again.
